Happy Endings

Here are the furkids who have gone to wonderful forever homes.

LILO
Bear, DE

7/21/08

This is Lilo, she was born January 04.
Lilo lived as the only child in the home until about 18 months ago, when a human child joined the family. Lilo is somewhat distressed now that the child is rather mobile and in her space. Lilo has taken to herding and nipping at the child and once got her a bit to hard on the foot and drew a little blood. Adding to Lilo's problems, there is now a second human child on the way. Lilo's human parents have tried to the best of their ability to help Lilo adjust, but have been unsuccessful and fear the upcoming child will only add to her problem.
Therefore, Lilo needs a new family, It would be best for Lilo to not have to share her family with children. Lilo is pretty tolerant of other dogs as long as they don't force themselves into her space.
Lilo is a typical sized female Schipperke that is no more than 13 to 15 pounds, she is spayed, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventive and current on her vaccinations. She is currently living in Bear, Delaware and has been a part of this home since the age of 8 weeks.

And here is Lilo now.  She loves her new pal Rex and the great yard she has to run in.

And a message from her new parents:

Wanted you to see how Lilo is doing in her new yard.  She is giving Rex a run for his money !  Maybe Rex will drop some weight now. I have sent these pics to Chris as well.

I am so glad I ran across Schipperke Rescue and  am thankful for good folks like you and the work you do for the breed!!!!

JACK
Fort Wayne, IN

jack2.jpg  jack1.jpg

Sex: Male Spay/Neuter Status: Neutered
Age: Est. 2-3 yr Health Status: No history; UTD on shots; housebroken
Size/Weight: Approx 15 lbs

My Name is Jack, like Jack Nicholson. I look like Jack and act like Jack, cool. I was discovered wandering around in the woods of southern Indiana and then brought into Schipperke Rescue. Anyways, I am just bunking it here right now and I’m looking for a home and family to call my own.

Being 2-3 years old I am full of energy and need a family that can keep up. I love to run, chase balls and pull every toy out of the toy box and spread them around the yard. I do have my basic house manners, no food issues, love to cuddle and bury my head into you for attention. I can share the bed for the night or a nap but I do like it outside and want a fenced yard to keep me safe.

BEAR
Edgewood, MD

5/14/08

Sex: Male Spay/Neuter Status: Neutered
Age: approx 5 years Health Status: No history
Size/Weight:

Bear was found in the woods near his foster's workplace.  He's about 5 years old, neutered, and good with other dogs.  He's a little fearful and should be placed in a home with experience dealing with possibly formerly mistreated animals and no children under 12.

MILEY
Burgettstown, PA

7/6/08

Sex: Female Spay/Neuter Status: Spayed
Age: 3 yr Health Status: From puppy mill; UTD on shots;
Size/Weight: Approx 15 lbs

This gorgeous little girl is Milley. She is a puppy mill survivor. She is about 3 years old and friendly as can be. She does well with other dogs and kids. She is up to date on shots, worming, and will be spayed before she goes to her new forever home. She needs to learn some house manners, but she is very willing to learn. She is very happy to be out of the mill and can't wait to have her new forever home in a house with people who love her.

CHARLIE
North East Virginia

4/2/08

Age -about 5 or 6
Basic attitude - Very people oriented outgoing little guy, loves to play, loves to sit on laps and get petted. He will sit when he wants something, he can touch (give paw), lay down, and speak.
Like kids? -Yes he like kids, but can get a bit toothy when playing with adults, so might wish to say older children only. Like cats? Likes to chase cats.  Activity level? -Very active.  Prefer men or women? - Loves everyone.  Good with other dogs? - Good with low key, older or non-aggressive dogs. Starts out shy towards other dogs, but will warm up in time.
Basic Medical information (arthritis, special diet, etc.)
In generally good health. Arthritis associated with a disc injury in his back, so climbing a lot of stairs or jumping a lot is not a good idea. Occasionally has a back flare up and needs to take a steroid or a muscle relaxant for a few days (rimadyl). Needs high quality dog food to avoid skin problems related to canine atopy, occasionally needs benedryl for red eyes/itchies.

MAEBY
North Eastern Virginia
4/29/08

Age -About 10.
Basic attitude -Somewhat independent, does not need to be around people all the time.  Generally low key, but very sweet, she will flop over for a belly rub at the drop of a hat and loves to give kisses.  She will patty cake, she loves to be walked, she twirls when you pick up the leash. She also loves just sitting outside, on a nice day she will sit there for hours if you let her.  She will sit when she wants something as well.
Like kids? - Doesn't seem to mind kids but she seems to prefer adults.
Like cats? - Likes to chase cats.  Activity level? - Low to moderate, loves to go for walks, but otherwise is pretty calm.  Prefer men or women? - friendly towards both but will seek out men first.
Good with other dogs? - Yes.
Basic Medical information (arthritis, special diet, etc.)
In generally good health.  Is missing some teeth due to poor dental care before we adopted her, all of her dental needs have been taken care of (that we know of).  Has some crystals in urine, this should be monitored occasionally but recent bloodwork was fine.
Both will be completely vetted, both are microchipped and we will change the address. They come with their own crates/toys/leashes/pillows and blankets.

SOPHIA
Valdosta, GA

1/19/08

She had been put in the shelter's night drop off box, so we don't know anything about her past. The shelter has already spayed her, updated all of her shots, and she tested heartworm and fecal negative.  She is just the sweetest, most affectionate little girl!  The shelter felt she was between 6-8 years old. She is small, around 10 pounds.  Wants to be held and sit next to you in a chair, drops and rolls over in a heartbeat for a tummy rub.  She has already started to play a bit.  We gave her a milkbone biscuit and she batted it and chased it around on the floor and rolled on it before she ate. Very cute little girl!

MOLLY
Kentucky

10/18/2007

Molly is a sweet 8-year old.  She does have epilepsy but her seizures are fully controlled with medication.  She is vetted and, otherwise, healthy.  She is good with other dogs and seems to be okay with kids if they aren't too young or forceful with her.  Sadly her owner  is a senior citizen with heath problems and is unable to provide properly for the dog such as exercise and attention.

TAILS
Ledyard, CT

4/21/08

Sex: Male Spay/Neuter Status: Neutered
Age: 4-5 years Health Status: No history
Size/Weight: large/35 lbs

Ledyard Connecticut Animal Control (near Foxwoods Casino on the RI border) found this little guy. He had been spotted roaming off and on for about a month but took off when approached. Finally, he ventured to another Schip owner, stayed overnight with her Schip, small mixed breed dog, husband and 2 year old child before coming to our kennel. We advertised, scanned him for a microchip and no response from an owner. He was full of ticks but otherwise in good health and a little overweight.

He is about 35 lbs. with a tail, hence his name. He is energetic, responsive to commands… sit, dance, stay, will wait until invited to put front paws on your lap.  Doesn’t seem to prefer jumping up in chairs, etc. Rides in the car, walks on leash, doesn’t try to back out of a collar so who knows how he came to us.

Therefore, besides a loving family we insist on a fenced in yard for him. He is not an excessive barker or have any bad habits or traits we can detect. He doesn’t seem to care about the other large dogs in the kennel and has already proven himself with direct contact with small breeds and children. Doesn’t seem to mind the cats either. Gentle with treats, not food aggressive. Doesn’t appear to be interested in toys. He is not a “Velcro” separation anxiety candidate.

Housebroken for sure. Has never marked in the office and holds it in the kennel sometimes. Not fair to evaluate as it can be too long of a time for anyone.
Appears to be between 3-5 yrs. Neutered. No vaccination or health history.  We will not have any problem placing this dog but like to get the word out if any Schip lovers are looking to adopt since it is rare to find this breed that is not claimed and appears to be perfect in every way!
Please do not call if you think he is in dire straights and you will be rescuing him from a bad situation. He is loving hanging out and spending the day with the officers helping them with patrols, cleaning, and keeping an eye on our guinea pig.

ZIGGY STAR
Albany, NY

7/31/08

ex:
Male Spay/Neuter Status: Neutered
Age: 5 yr Health Status: Current on rabies, bordatella, is HW neg.
Size/Weight: Approx 18 lbs

This is ziggy star ..currently in foster care.   He is sweet, playfull, housebroken with only occasional accidents.  He is great with kids , cats , and other dogs. He is a runner and, therefore, must have a fenced yard so he can get the exercise he wants and needs.  He is 5 yrs old, current on rabies, bordatella, heartworm negative.  He rides quite well in the car and likes to sleep in bed.  His owners moved and were unable to keep him. He has been in foster care for about a month. He was aloof at first, most likely because he was very bonded with his owners and misses them dearly.  I

SKIPPYDOO
Edmonds, WA

1/31/08

Sex: Female Spay/Neuter Status: spayed
Age: 4-5 years Health Status: Up to date on all vaccs. microchipped, no health concerns
Size/Weight: small/ 17 lbs

SkippyDoo is an amazing, wonderful Schipperke and a total joy to have around. Skippy and 8 other dogs were surrendered to Rescue in late January 2008 by family of the deceased owner. After being placed in temporary foster homes around Seattle, the dogs were vaccinated, spayed, bathed and settled in with their caregivers. SkippyDoo is the sweetest dog I have ever fostered (and the first Schipperke), she is very well-behaved and lots of fun to have around. Skippy is housebroken, crate trained, and good on the leash. She comes when called (most often), is very affectionate to people and tolerates other dogs without aggression or dominance (both males and females, large and small sized). She does not solicit play with the other dogs, preferring to just ignore them for the most part, so will not be placed as a playmate for a current dog. Skippy is extremely tolerant of human handling, allowing us to do anything to her without showing any human-aggression at all - no attempts to nip. Skippy is quiet all night (crated) but is an early morning riser who wants her "dinner" served promptly. She travels crated quietly in the car. Skippy loves taking long walks and has no trouble keeping up the pace. She takes treats gently - no teeth on hands. She is active and lively without being wild; usually walking through the house without racing at top speed. At mealtime, Skippy will dance on tippy toes and jump high in the air with delight. Skippy seems very self-confident and has high self esteem; yet is apologetic and begs for forgiveness when verbally corrected. She is extremely smart and learns quickly new routines and expectations of her people.
Like most Schipperkes, SkippyDoo will likely take advantage of any opportunity to escape through an open door or gate and run off, never looking back. Her home must have a fully fenced yard with no gaps or weak spots in the fencing or gate. She must be walked on leash when out, not trusted to stay close.
Because of escape issues, Skippy will be available to families with children over 12 years of age only.

FANCY
Kent, WA
2/10/08

Sex: Female Spay/Neuter Status: spayed
Age: 2-1/2 years Health Status: Up to date on all vaccs. microchipped, no health concerns
Size/Weight: small/ 14 lbs

Fancy is a darling little female schipperke who is looking for a loving home due to the death of her owner. Fancy is 2-1/2 years old, a spayed female who weighs a petite 14 pounds. She has a shiny black coat, docked tail, and wears a smile on her face. She had a trip to the spa for a bath and a manicure, then went to the doctor for "tutoring" (spay), vaccinations and microchip.
Fancy is intelligent and inquisitive and is cautious of new situations but adjusts quickly. She ignores the foster family cats, dogs, and caged birds. She is a quiet dog who only barks rarely, giving a quick one-bark-warning if a stranger approaches the house. She has bright alert eyes, is perky but not hyper, eager to please, and listens intently to human conversations.
Fancy is gentle, affectionate, and very pretty to look at. She settles down quickly inside the house, sleeping on her pillow during family time.
Fancy has learned many skills since coming into foster care. She has mastered walking on a leash, sleeping in a dog crate and is learning to "sit" and "come" when called (especially if treats are involved!!) Currently she is doing very well on housebreaking too. Fancy would make a wonderful addition to any household, but best if placed in a Schip-wise home.

ITTIEBIT
Anacortes, WA
1/31/08

Sex: Female Spay/Neuter Status: spayed
Age: 2 1/2 years Health Status: current on vaccs.; microchip; no health concerns
Size/Weight: small/ 13 lbs

IttieBitt is adorable -- a very sweet little girl who is being fostered temporarily in a loving home north of Seattle. She has been learning a whole new routine and it has been quite an adjustment for her, but she is responding well. She has a loving personality and a delightful temperament.  A very smart girl, Ittie is learning to be reliably housebroken, walk on leash, ride in the car, and understand new verbal commands.  IttieBitt comes crate trained, spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. Since the Schipperke is a well-known dog to escape and run, a safe/secure fence is absolutely required -- a fence without gaps and crawl spaces.    Home visits are required to check for safety and security.

GYPSY
in Indiana

7/17/07

She was rescued from a West Terre Haute Highway in the late summer of 2001 by what we now know as Friends of Phoenix in Shirley, IN.
She was found alone, and attempts were made to find her owner, but to no avail. As we visited that farm often, and helped with some of the work, we met her on one trip, and she decided we were going to be her new humans. We took her home that night, and she took to our home and us and the grandkids immediately. We decided to keep her, of course, and found out a week or so later that she was pregnant, and fixed up a room for her to get away and to eventually have her pups in. She had four, and after finding homes for three, we chose to keep one for company for her, as we live in a condominium, and without a yard to play in, we When we took her to have her spayed, and have her initial shots, we were given the guesstimation that she was approximately 2 years old when we got her, so that would make her about eight years old now.
She's 18 inches at the shoulder, and fluctuates between 25 and 30 pounds. She's a little closer to 30 right now, and she will put herself on a "diet" when she gets this heavy.
She's high energy, and very playful, and very loving and snuggly.  She let's you know if she needs to go outside, and doesn't eat a lot at any one time, but she will "graze" if she's hungry, and loves chilled water & ice cubes.  She's very camera-shy, as you can tell by the pictures I've attached. These are the best photos I could find.  She's very territorial, and other dog aggressive, and living in a condo, without a yard to run in and think of as her own, she's had problems with boundaries. She only seems anxious about light colored or "white" dogs, as those are the only light colored dogs here in our neighborhood.
She handles strangers fairly well, as long as we are OK with them. She has had an issue with hats in the past for some reason, but don't know if that would be a problem now, and she let's you know if someone's coming to your door often before you know.
She takes to children pretty easily, but if she's had enough, she has had her own space that she can go to here to get away for too much activity.

BENTLEY
Lancaster, PA

8/30/2007

PA200708M-01 - Bentley is a 10-year-old sweetheart.  He is a very laid-back Schip, loves nothing better than to bask in the sunshine or lie at your feet.  He is in excellent health except for a little arthritis in his rear which is improving due to regular Sea Jerky supplements.  He is not fond of young, rambunctious pups who get in his face, and is a little stand-offish at first, but warms up quickly to humans.  He was a stray but, obviously, well loved and cared for.  We guess his owner passed away and he was simply let loose.

SKOOTER
New Hampshire
7/9/07

Meet Skooter!  He's 7 months old, on the large side, and ALL puppy!  He is a very affectionate and playful owner-turn-in due to a death in the family.  He has no training as of yet, but is starting to learn.  He should probably go to a home without small children (he will push the envelope with toddlers but loves older kids).  He would LOVE other dogs to play with and seems to get along with non-Schips as well as other Schips.

RAE ANN
Illinois
7/3/06

05019 – Rae Ann - Female, about 3 years old, in a foster home in O’Fallon, IL.  Rae is the sweetest girl ever.  She does not know a stranger.  She was born blind in a volume breeding operation and was surrendered to rescue because of her blindness.  She is crate trained but has a problem with messing her crate, most likely due to the substandard living conditions she experienced as a puppy.  She has been through basic obedience and does quite well using sound instead of hand signals.  She has had one eye removed due to severe glaucoma.  She gets along with everyone and is very independent.  She memorizes where everything is in the house and yard and rarely runs into things.  She is simply amazing.  Rae “spoke” to a pet psychic and told them that she wanted to be a therapy dog and help blind humans.  Help her realize this goal!

CAMI
Lancaster, PA
10/13/07

PA200710F-01 - Camellia is about 4 years old and a rescue from a puppy mill.  She is very shy of people although she seems to get along well with other Schips.  She is tiny - only 7 1/2 pounds and has a pair of luxating patellas on her rear legs.  She is now on high-quality food and Sea Jerky supplements to help her rebuild cartilage, however, it is possible that at sometime in the future she will need knee surgery.  Otherwise she is in excellent health and has now been spayed, updated on all shots, microchipped, and, after a week in foster care, is beginning to accept food and treats from her foster mom's hand.  Cami is not currently available for adoption, but will probably be in the next month or so.

Well, her foster mom fell in love with her, so Cami has the best forever home she could ever dream of!

BALOO
Little Elm, TX
12/5/2007

Meet Baloo.  He is a 6-month-old male puppy (9.4 lbs), who was rescued from a puppy mill situation.  He is neutered, up-to-date on all shots, on heartwork preventative, microchipped, and worm free.  He is a very happy, sweet little dog, fine around kids and other dogs, barks at the cat but is not agressive at all.  Very accepting of any new experience.  Because he did not receive early socialization he probably needs a family familiar with Schipperkes or is very dog-savvy, and knowledgeable about training.

BROCK-LEE
Lancaster, PA

7/20/2007

PA200707M-01 Brock-Lee is about 22 months old and is a full of life, neutered male Schip puppy. Mr. Perpetual Motion, he loves toys and will play for hours in the backyard or house.  He does need lots of running room - a well-fenced area is preferred.  He is on the large size - about 20 lbs.  He seems to get along well with other dogs, but is better with younger rather than older due to his enthusiasm for slightly rough play and constant activity.  He sleeps in a crate, loves his cheese and carrots in the morning for breakfast.  He was an owner turn-in, current on all shots and microchipped.

 TINA
in Michigan

7/1/06

http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/MI544/MI544.6534329-1-x.jpg

06029 – Tina – 9 yr. old puppy mill breeding female  Hercules and Ebony from the same volume breeder.  She is 8 years young with lots of energy.  We almost lost her during her spay because of an infection in her uterus but she is now doing very well.  She still needs to lose a little more weight but she now gets to run with a lot of other dogs so is getting a lot more exercise plus a high quality food.  She can be a bit timid with new people but does seek attention when you walk near her crate or pen.  She is crate trained.  Tina will need more work on her house training but really likes the idea of going outside in real grass!  She can be a bossy little girl so will need to be placed with a submissive dog buddy.  I do not know how she does with small children or cats.

ACADIA (CADY)
Monaca, PA
7/12/07

This delightful little girl was brought in as a stray.  Fully housetrained,  Cady quickly does her work outside with or without a leash, prefers privacy, if available, and then runs for the deck and waits for us or other dogs to play or go back in with her.  She is estimated to be about 5 years old, but plays like a younger dog.  She is spayed and fully vetted. Heartworm negative.  12 lbs, 12 inches tall with a full coat and ruff. She happily heals on a leash and knows all the basic commands like come, sit, down, quiet, wait, no. She is doing well learning stay, shake hands, and roll over. She is bright and curious and investigates everything. She reacts positively to corrections and apologizes for her transgressions.  Quickly learned which furniture she was not allowed on and aims to please.  She leaves the room and finds a toy to play with when people are eating.  Never touches anything that belongs to her people.  Loves her crate, opens the door to go in by herself and often hangs out nearby. She readily plays with toys, and initiates play and nascar with the other dogs in her foster home.  Is good in the car and did not mind her bath. She was frightened of strangers in the shelter, but a little patience and loving affection quickly earns her trust and adoration; a pupcorn helps too. She is doing well with the new people she meets now.  She loves her mom and is a kitchen helper extraordinaire; stands on her hind legs to supervise the cooking but never a paw on, or nose in, anything. She loves to play with her dad too and asks for him to pick her up for a cuddle with a gentle paw on the shoe or an aarrooo. She does need to be muzzled when the vet draws blood, but she is otherwise very well behaved for her exam.  She is learning to have her nails dremeled.  We do recommend that she go into a home with no small children. Her new name rhymes with Lady.

Another great case of a foster family that fell in love with this precious girl.  Cady has joined a wonderful, loving pack.

BAILEY
Saxonburg, PA

8/8/07

Sadly attempting to find a good home due to a move.  Bailey currently lives in Saxonburg, Pa which is close to Pittsburgh.  Bailey is a 4 year old neutered boy weighing about 21 pounds.  He is up to date with all vaccinations with no known health problems.  He is a very loving boy, who loves giving and receiving attention.  He knows his basic commands- sit, down, stay.  He was raised in a home with another dog, cats, and a young child (now 5).  He will tolerate young kids, but will be happier in a home with older or no kids.  He will also do better in a home without cats since he likes to chase and nip at them.  He loves his people family and enjoys playing with our other dog.  He will growl and bark at strangers but will cautiously accept them once he sees his people family accept them. Bailey is housetrained when on a regular schedule to go outside.  He is also crated at night and when left home alone.

AIDEN
Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX
9/3/07

Hi, I'm Aiden and I'm GORGEOUS!  See my wunnerful tail!  I'm still a puppy under one year old.  I do okay with one other dog, but I'm a little uneasy with a passle of 'em.  I do like girls, though.  And cats are great.  I love toys and am kinda possessive about them.  Small kids, though, are just weird.  Older ones, if they are nice to me, are okay.  I would just LOVE a mom, but it's okay if there's a dad, too, as long as he is patient with me.  My foster mom says I'm doing very well with my housebreaking.  I even ask to go out.  I'm very smart and just want to be loved.

ABBOTT & COSTELLO
Ft. Worth, TX
7/6/07

These two boys were just rescued from a local shelter. They were to be euthanized the day I got a call about them. They are both boys and are very tightly bonded. That is why I couldn't leave the Schip's buddy there. The boys were picked up together. They are about 1 to 1 1/2 years old. They are very sweet and just hilarious when they play together. They love women, men and even small children. We have had them playing with all kinds of people and they have done very well. They are not house trained, but since we have started crate training, they have not had even one accident in their crate. We are leash training them now. Both boys have had their vaccinations, been wormed, vet checked and are waiting for their appointment to be neutered. If you have the space in your heart and home for these two boys, please let us know you are interested. They were calling them Abbott and Costello at the shelter, so we have continued that here.

CHIPPER
Shelbyville, DE

6/11/07

Chipper is thought to be around six years old and is good with both humans and dogs. He is a nice boy with a natural tail and can be adopted for $200.00  He is neutered and UTD on vaccinations.  If interested, please contact: Susan Fogleman

WOLFGANG
Michigan
7/3/06

05013 – Wolfgang – 18 month old male.  He is a high ranking male who was giving his former family a hard time with inappropriate behavior.  He is not good with the other male Schips here.  He is in foster care in Lansing, MI. where he will get more one on one training.

 WYLE
Michigan
7/3/06

05016 – Wyle – 2 yr. old male.  Wyle is a blue Schip, and consequently has a lot of the typical “blue dog” hair loss problems.  He is missing hair on his legs and the tips of his ears.  His coat also has a weird feel to it.  He was returned to rescue because of his dog aggression issues.  He seems to have a high prey drive, and when turned on by the other dogs running he tends to become a bit aggressive.  He also turns on when the other dogs are playing and he gets wound up.  He is not as high ranking as he thought he was when he first came in – having lost a few scuffles with Scooter (05004) and has learned some pack manners.  He also has learned how to play with a higher ranking female in the pack.  He is in foster care and training in Michigan.

PIP
in Rensselaer, NY

3/19/07

We believe that Pip is a black Schipperke mix--although the pet store probably sold her as a purebred Schipperke with a tail. She has a curled Pomeranian tail and some other Pom characteristics, and is a very cute little girl! A little shy at first, but learning to be more trustful; she is fine with other dogs and would probably want to play with cats, so any cats should not be afraid of dogs. We estimate she is 9-10 years old and weighs 12 pounds. This is one of several dogs CAPP rescued from a neglectful situation--they were housed long term in a basement and had little interaction with the outside world. If you are looking for a true rescue pet that needs your help in adjusting to life, then this might be the dog for you! Please understand that a patient, understanding home is a necessity--most of these dogs will need help housebreaking, learning to walk on leash, etc. These dogs required extraordinary medical care--their adoption fee is $200 each. IMPORTANT! Please read four of CAPP's general policies below; any exceptions will be noted in the pet's individual description. 1) The first step in the process is to attend a pet adoption clinic (information on our web site) or submit an application (also on our web site). 2) Because we conduct home visits, CAPP limits placements to within an hour's drive of Albany, NY--unless the pet is a noted exception to this policy, we won't respond to a long distance inquiry. 3) For the safety of the dog and children, CAPP does not place senior dogs or dogs under 35 pounds in households where children under 8 years old either reside or visit frequently. 4) We don't have the resources to respond to all the casual inquiries that we receive.

BELLA
in Springfield, VA

4/20/2007

PA200703F-03:  Meet Miss Bella.  She is a one-year-old typically energetic and feisty Schip puppy.  Lovely, sweet, friendly little girl who loves her Golden Retriever pal at her foster home.  She is learning her potty training but still has a little work to do.  Does fine in a crate.  She has adjusted very well to her new environment and does well with other dogs.  We don't know about how she is with children, but she would probably shy away from young children because she is very small.  Otherwise she is cuddly and loves to be petted.  She is spayed and up-to-date on all shots.

COLE
in Fort Wayne, Indiana

4/2/07

IN0704F-01 - Hi, my name is Cole. I am approx. 10 months old as of March 2007. When I was just a few days old a nice lady who’s dog lost her puppy bought me to comfort her dog in her time of need. I stayed with her until I was two months old and then I went to stay with a family that never had a dog at all. They thought I was just the cutest thing. But then of course as you know with us Schips we stop looking like a cute little bear cubs and develop our own distinctive look. They did not want me anymore so the nice lady contacted Schipperke rescue and some other nice people came and picked me up. I am now staying in the luxurious suite of their hotel. I am still a puppy but am not obnoxious. I am a lady after all. And speaking of ladies, I really like the lady who I am living with, the man is nice but I seem to prefer her over him. I need to go to school like any other kid. Manners are important and I do not have that many of them. I am completely housebroken and by the way have you noticed my beautiful tail. Since the nice lady took me before my first owner could cut it off, I was spared the axe!!!!

NIKKI
in Lancaster, PA
12/9/06

PA20061007F-01Nikki.  Nikki is a 3-year-old spayed female, very playful and rambunctious.  Loves to play with other dogs and needs lots of company - either human or canine.  However, she is works better with males rather than other females.  She is very possessive of her treats and will get slightly aggressive in competing for them.  She seems to like cats - will play with them and chase but does not seem at all aggressive toward them.  Also likes children (tested with ages 9 and up).  When not madly romping and roughhousing with playmates, she is a complete lapdog.  She is fully house-trained and current on shots.  She gets restless and mischievous when left on her own so she does much better in a household where someone is there most of the time or she has other playmates to keep her occupied.

HOORAY~Buster & Dino have been found and returned to their home!
10 year old male Schip & 5 year old male
Minpin/Pom
Culpeper, VA
2/10/07
We believe someone pick up these two dogs from the end of our driveway 2/10/07.  Our Schip is Buster, 17Lbs., 16" tall, 10 years old, with a little gray coming in around his nose. His friend is Dino a Minpin/Pom, same size, 5 years old.  Buster & Dino prefer to be outside during the day and always stays close to the house that is why we think they were picked up at the driveway together.

SKIPPY

Hi, my name is Skippy.  My previous owners had to give me up because they were moving away and couldn't keep me.  I am almost 6 years old, neutered and very well behaved.  I am UTD with all of my shots and have seen my Vet regularly.  With my previous owners I wouldn't leave my front yard.  I didn't run away.  I am sure with time I will be able to do that with my new family.  I am good with kids and up to a certain point with the younger crowd.  I don't like my fur to be pulled.  I will let them know it hurts.  I have been an only dog and will do best in a one or two dog home.  I also like to sing and get daily brushings.

Pudgy is a 1 year old male who is neutered and UTD on all shots.  He's great with other dogs and is a typical Schip teenager, full of energy.

KOLBEY
Michigan
6/15/07

KOLBEY:  Kolbey's mom could no longer take care of him after 5 years so Kolbey is looking to find someone who doesn't mind that he is afraid of thunderstorms. Kolbey is housetrained and knows several tricks: sit, down, roll over, play dead, pray and shake or high five! He is a real character and 'talks' to you by snapping his mouth to make a clacking noise when he is excited. He is a hoot! He loves to be on the couch, go for a ride or a walk. He gets along with all the girls but doesn't care for the intact boys. He is crate trained but prefers the couch or bed. Kolbey was raised with a toddler and was very tolerant with her. He is a small boy, only 13 pounds. Kolbey's previous owner had him shaved on a regular basis so his beautiful schipperke coat is just now coming back. It may take awhile longer for it to look perfect, but the perfection comes from his personality, not his hair!    I ran a thyroid test which was normal so we will just have to wait for his coat to come back on it's own.  He is on a good diet and has shown improvement in the few short weeks he has been on it.

LOUIE
Michigan
12/4/06

 06035 -
Louie came from Louisville, KY, hence the name. He is about 8-10 years old. He seems to be a bit hard of hearing - and it is not the typical "selective" hearing most Schipperkes develope. He is a bit thin - but he was in a run at the shelter with a couple of big dogs so he may not have been able to get much food. He is a bit unsteady on his feet - though there doesn't seem to be a noticable reason. He is terribly straight in the rear and that may account for it. He also has flat front feet - possibly compensating for his poor rear. He seems to be a nice little dog. He will allow himself to be picked up and carried around and is quite comfortable with it. He accepts petting and handling just fine. If you love old dogs, please consider giving Louie a home. Louie is showing a lot of personality and having fun. Got a few pix today of him on the couch. He enjoys playing with toys, running around the livingroom saying "catch me!", seeking attention, play bowing. Loves to wrestle with his towel that's in the crate. I don't see him stumbling like he did - wonder how much was congestion and weakness from being underweight. He runs and trots but is still a bit awkward trotting down a hill. Jumps up on the couch or porch himself. Clean in the house, crate trained. Fine with the cat and no desire to try to dominate anyone. No food or toy possession. He's a sweet, impish little guy and an easy keeper. :)

CLANCY
in Michigan

7/1/06

06026 – Clancy – 2 yr. old mix.  He probably is not a Schip at all.  He came from a shelter as an un-neutered stray.  He is very sweet and was a shelter favorite.  He did learn how to bark at the shelter and has a bit of a separation anxiety issue when his foster mom leaves the room.  He does bark in his crate but will quickly settle down.  He probably was never crated.  He can leap a 30” fence, so containment will be an issue when looking for a home.  He is a tennis ball fanatic and will play by himself for hours.  He gets along with all the other dogs unless there is a rawhide to discuss.  But playing is the thing he loves most.  He is also good on a flexi leash when walked.

BOOMER

BOOMER:  Boom Boom is an 11 yr young boy that had both his humans die and nowhere for him to go.  A few years ago he saved their lives when he was so insistent that they wake up when their garage was on fire.  He is a big boy and is still very, very active.  Toys rule!

EMMY
in Western New York State
9/8/07

Emmy is a very active 1-1/2 to 2 year old female.  She is a quick learner and would probably make an excellent agility prospect.  She does need some obedience work as she is an alpha female.  She gets along well with boy dogs, but not so much other girls.  Would probably not be good with small children.  She does love to cuddle and have her belly rubbed.

EBONY (now known as Valentine)
in Michigan

7/1/06

Ebony's story:
Hello, my name is Sydney, and I am nine years old and I go to school at home. We live on a small farm and I love animals. I would like to tell you a story about how I got one of my best friends in the world. Her name is Vallie (short for Valentine) and she is a Schipperke. It all started when my mom got an email from the Schipperke rescue team asking if we would watch a Skippy for them as there were so many dogs that needed a place to stay. My mom said yes, so two days after Valentines Day we went and picked up a six year old female who had been in rescue for a while but no family had chosen to adopt her. When we got home she didn’t know who to trust but after about a week she was calmer..... much calmer. She still didn’t know who to trust but she choose me; I could pick her up, bath her, put her out and hold her. She followed me everywhere and waited at the door anytime I needed to be gone. She began to sleep in my bed and eventually, snuggled right up under my chin at bedtime. Because I go to school at home, Vallie is with me all day long which is really what she needed; someone to be there for her as she started to trust again. A few days later, my mom got another call asking if we would consider keeping her and adopting her permanently. My mom said she didn’t think they were going to get her out of the house as Vallie and I were now each others best buddy and so Vallie is now mine for a lifetime. This is how I got my first Schipperke, one of my best friends.

MEATLOAF
now in New Jersey

1/30/07

PA200701M-02Bear.  If you are looking for a youngster (13 months) who's somewhat large for a Schip (27 lbs - no fat, just tall and solid) and loves men, then you MUST meet BooBear.  He is the sweetest, huge Schip we've seen in a long time.  He knows SIT and GIVE PAW and just loves to have his paw rubbed.  He's amazingly quiet unless he's left alone for too long because he wants to play and sit on your lap and snuggle for as long as possible.  He is neutered, vaccinated, and HW tested.  He did show positive for Lyme infection (not disease), which is being taken care of with Doxycycline and one more injection.  If you want a playmate to run with, snuggle with, love on, and be a terrific companion, then you want to meet BooBear.

COCO
in Averill Park, NY
(near Albany)

2/6/07

PA200702F-01Coco - Meet Miss Coco, a tiny Chocolate rescue from a puppy mill.  The mill owner was going to kill her because she couldn't make enough money off of Schipperkes.  Thanks to a lovely lady who rescued her and turned her over to a volunteer with Dogs Deserve Better, we hope to find her a patient, loving home.  She is 3 years old, currently not spayed nor housetrained (although she has already learned the pet door in her new foster home and has had only two accidents).  But she seems to be good with kids, dogs, and, possibly, cats.  She weighs about 8-9 pounds and very sweet although a little shy and scared at first.  Once she bonds, though (and she does so quickly) she is fiercely protective.

JASMINE
in Averill Park, NY
2/10/07

PA20070210F-03  Strictly speaking, Jasmine is only part Schipperke, but she is such a lovely and loving girl, we had to include her.  She is large - 32 lbs - and tall, but elegant and adorable.  She is not yet spayed but will be shortly.  She loves people and seems to get along well with other dogs.

MEGAN
in Norfolk, VA

2/2/07

Megan is a 3-year-old owner surrender because she doesn't get along with the other dog in their home.  But the owner states that she gets along with other female dogs and has not exposure to male dogs.  She is house-trained, friendly to people.  Not fond of cats.  She was purchased from a NC breeder at the age of 4 months.  She is somewhat overweight at 25 lbs and probably should lose a little (get down to 17-18).

BLINKIN'
near Richmond, VA

Meet Blinkin...age 12 Healthy other than ear infection and cataracts.
Cataracts leave him with a filmy vision. Has trouble with steps (seems to be from his eye) and MAY be slight in hearing. Does not bark or respond to loud noises.  Loves to be in a lap or following you around.  Somewhat house trained, Fine overnight but in day needs to go our every 2 to 3 hours or he will pee inside.  Has been updated on his vaccinations and is heartworm free.

GILLIGAN
in Lancaster, PA

12/9/06

PA20061014M - Gilligan is a 4-year old male, neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.  He is a wonderful, loving boy, once he gets to know you.  He is somewhat standoffish of strangers.  He gets along with other dogs but remains slightly aloof.  Plays very well on his own and enjoys one-on-one time.  He will happily jump in your lap and give you kisses galore.  Seems to do well with children (tested with 9 year-olds and up).

BABY
in Cincinatti, OH

10/14/06

Baby is a neutered, male Schipperke, taken for some elderly friends that have to move into an apartment. Baby is 7 years old, very loving, good with kids, dogs, cats, would do fine in a multi dog household, as long as he could boss them around. He DOESN'T get physical to boss, only vocal, but, what can I say, he is a big dog in a little package.  He is up to date on vaccines and is on heartworm and flea and tick preventatives.

MR. BEAR
Michigan
7/3/06

05002 - Mr. Bear – 5 yr. old male (with tail).  He is the sweetest thing with people.  He is not good with other pets in the home.  He needs to be the ONLY pet in the house.  He loves his toys and will play retrieve for hours.  He is one of those Schips who runs in circles all the time.  Even on a walk, he will travel forward by trotting in circles.  At least he gets lots of exercise.  He was not raised with children so we do not know how he acts with them.  He would probably be best in a no child home.

KELE
Michigan
12/4/06

06048 -  Kele came into rescue along with her sister Fala. She is your typical young Schip - way too much energy for a family with two young Schips to handle. She also has a tail. More information as she settles into her foster home.

MOLLY
Michigan
12/4/06

06050 -  Molly is an 8 yr. old female. She needs a new home without small children and without other dogs. She is used to being a "Princess" and just cannot deal with being demoted. She loves to be petted, she loves going for walks. She is very overweight and really needs to lose as much as possible. She would love to be in a home where she is the most important "person" in someone's life. She has a great deal of love to give.

ZORRO
Michigan
12/4/06

My name is Zorro. I am 5 yrs. old and this is my story. I was bought from a breeder when I was 4 months old. I was supposed to be the families daughter's dog, but it quickly became apparent that I was a rescue in that I had a lot of issues.

The first issue was forming a bond with and learning to trust my new family. That took a while. I was born to a litter of six. My mother was removed from the litter when we were about 5 weeks old. My brothers and sisters were sold off and began leaving at 6-8 weeks of age, leaving me all alone in the horse stall where we were born.

I received no socialization or training and was abused by the breeder's husband. I never left the horse stall until I was almost 4 months of age and the breeder put me in a pet taxi and took me to a horse fair where my family found me. I was taken to class for basic training and show training so I could gain socialization by going to dog events where there were people and dogs. I did well with other dogs, but was terrified of people. I was shown for about 6 months, then neutered at about 18 months.

I have had numerous experiences in meeting people in attempts to be well socialized. To this day I remain wary of all strangers, especially men. I don't do well with changes, I can get stressed easily, but have not had occurances of dandruff since my early days. When I was 3, my family brought home a couple of Schipperke pups. I did well with them and was fine until the male grew up and matured. We began fighting. I want to rule the house and have all the attention. I don't understand pack behavior very well. For the past year we have all been crated and let out individually so that we don't hurt each other. It has been a whole year and things have not improved.

I am very unhappy with this living arrangement and really wish to have a home of my own where I can be loose and act like a regular house dog. I am very well housebroken. I can be left alone while someone works without being crated. I can be crated if a new family wishes.

I love to go on walks. I have a CGC title and Agility training. I have a bad rear leg that prevents me from competing in agility as I go lame. I've not had trouble with my leg during normal activities and can run and jump like a regular Schip. I have been x-rayed and the problem is in the muscle or ligament structure, not the bone. My knee joint and hip joints are fine.

I have had regular grooming, shots, heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventatives. I've had my teeth cleaned annually. I had to have a couple of back teeth extracted last year, but that doesn't interfere with my eating. I should be in a home without small children as I tend to get too excited. I would chase kids on bikes if I werer loose. I chase cats too. In addition to regular training, I patty-cake, roll over and shake hands on command. I wish to make someone a wonderful pet.

HENRY
in Michigan

7/1/06

06030 – Henry – 13 yr. old male.  He was adopted from Michigan as a 9 month old puppy.  His owner had to move and could not find a place that would take dogs.  He is a bit of a grumpy old gentleman but is easy to live with.  His owner spoiled him rotten and he is not used to being treated like a dog.  He is adapting well in his foster home.  His owner would like to get him back if she can find living quarters that accept small dogs.  Otherwise he can stay where he is.

EBONY
in Michigan

7/1/06

06028 – Ebony – 6 yr. old puppy mill breeding female.  This dog is in foster care in Illinois.  Ebony may be the little sister to Hercules.  (See his biography at our site.)  She is due to be spayed in the next couple of weeks, she is recovering from a serious infection.  She is very active and loves attention.  Just like Hercules, she can be a little stiff when you pick her up but she still loves to be petted and fussed over.  She gets along with the other schipperkes, both male and female.  I do not know if she is good with children or cats.  She will need work on house training as she is a retired breeding female from a volume breeder.  She is crate trained.

FALA
Indiana
12/4/06

Fala is a 8 months old spayed female with a tail. She’s a very happy girl and a puppy at heart. Love toys, gets into lots of puppy mischief, a little to quick when going for the cheese and carrots in the morning she just needs some training to make her a model schippy citizen. Not tested with small kids yet the supervised test will come the next time the grandkids are over at the house. She was an owner turn-in, current on all shots and microchipped.

BB (Black Bear)

SKIPPER
West Islip, Long Island, NY
8/14/06

This is Skipper....(such an origional name).  She is with me now after being bailed out from the Westport Humane Society.  She has been there since May!  I was quite surprised to see how active she is for a mature lady and has no medical problems.  She is up to date on all her medical needs.  She gets along with kids, cats, and dogs.  They said she is 14 but I think she might be a tad younger as she is pretty active. She is crate trained and housebroken, quiet  and walks nicely on a leash. She loves her chewies too!

TURBO
Michigan
7/3/06

05006 – Turbo – 4 yr. old male.  Turbo looks like a Black Norwegian Elkhound.  He has a white splash on his chest and white on all four feet.  He was adopted in 2003, then returned because his owner had to move back in with her mother.  He is NOT good with cats.  He is great with people.  He is low ranking and gets along with all the dogs.  He is in crate trained and housebroken.  He is just a big mush of a dog, and is very lovable.  He is too big to be the lap dog he wants to be.  He is in foster care in Michigan.

CASA
Michigan
7/3/06

05009 – Casa – 9 yr. old male.  Casa is a munchkin – weighing only 6 lbs.  Around his foster home he is the “Mighty Casa” as he thinks he rules the world.  He is pretty funny.  He is not housebroken and needs to wear a belly band as he will mark anything.  He has bad teeth and needs to be on some sort of dental cleaning regimen.  He has had several dentals and has lost most of his teeth.  He came in with Mia and must be adopted with her.  He is loves to run in circles – around anything available.  He is not all that good on leash – probably never walked as a young dog.  He is loveable and will sit on your lap if requested.  He is in foster care in Michigan.

LITTLE RITCHIE
in Michigan

7/1/06

06014 – Little Ritchie – (Schip/Chichuahua mix): Male with a tail, approximately 2-4 years old.  Ritchie is in a foster home in Illinois.  This boy needs a job!  He is high energy mixed with lots of affection for his person.  He will supervise your every move and loves to make sure that the couch or chair you are sitting in is decorated with his little black self!  He is crate trained and house trained.  He does not always get along with other dogs, especially larger dogs or males.  He can look at you and melt your heart!

LUCKY
in Michigan

7/1/06

06031 – Lucky – 6 yr. old female.  She is the sweetest thing since sugar.  Her owner is having medical issues and had to give her up.  She is good with dogs, cats, kids and anyone else she meets.  She just loves greeting people.  She is crate trained and housebroken.  She is the perfect house guest.  She was attacked by another dog when she was a puppy and as a result is almost blind in one eye.  She also started having seizures a couple of years ago and has to take one Phenobarbital daily to keep them under control.  Her jaw is very undershot and consequently her teeth are pretty cruddy.  Other than that she is just really neat.

HUNTER
in Michigan

7/1/06

06022 – Hunter – About a 2 yr. old male.  He was picked up as a stray.  He had not been neutered.  He is pretty social – making the transfer from the shelter to Mary to Michele G. with no problems.  He is playful and gets along with the other dogs.  He does have issues when there are valuable things to guard or steal from the other dogs.  He could be an only dog or go with a female with no problems.

 POTSIE
in Michigan

7/1/06

06023 – Potsie – 2 yr. old male Schip/Papillion mix.  He is the neatest dog.  Very playful and fun loving.  Loves his toys.  Loves to be chased.  He is a fence climber so will need to be behind a privacy fence.

DARLIN'
in Michigan

7/1/06

06005 – Darlin’ (f) – 5-6 yr. old female.  Darlin’ was a puppy mill brood bitch.  She was the most social of the 3 from that kennel that were turned in together.  She is tiny – maybe 12 lbs (when thin).  She lived for a while with a family with two children and did well with the kids.  She is very lovable and loves to sit on laps.  Her biggest issue is that she is not housebroken.  She will urinate on area rugs and fleece doggie beds lying on the floor.  She will also mess her crate and not be concerned about it.  She is in foster care in Michigan.

SHI
Michigan
7/3/06

05011 – Shi – 10 yr. old female.  Shi loves people.  She will greet anyone coming in to the house and gets upset if she can’t say hello.  She is very, very aggressive if she is in a crate and she doesn’t know you.  Once she knows you, you can do just about anything and she is fine.  Her biggest problem is that she eats things.  She starts sucking on blankets, bedspreads, etc, then goes to chewing on them, the puts holes in whatever she is sucking on.  She would probably be best in a home with no small children.  She is in foster care in Michigan.

MIA
Michigan
7/3/06

05010 – Mia – 9 yr. old female.  Mia is the other munchkin – also weighing 6 lbs.  She is almost as tough as her brother Casa.  She is also not housebroken.  She will follow Casa around and mark territory as well.  She has the same bad tooth problem.  She must be adopted with her brother.  She very sweet and loving.  She will sit on your lap for hours getting petted.  She is in foster care in Michigan.

PACO
Indiana
7/3/06

05024 – Paco – 2 yr. old male.  Excellent personality and temperament.  He gets along with dogs.  His previous foster said he did well with her toddler.  Paco was a stray that showed up on her porch.  Searching and advertising turned up no owner.  Paco may be a Schipperke mix.  He is about 15 lbs. and has a tail, Schipperkeish head and body and short coat.  He has a small white spot on his chest and whit on his toes.  Previous foster said he was housebroken.  He is in foster care in Indiana.

GRADY
in
Indiana

9/9/06

06025 – Grady – 9 -10 yr. old male. He was found walking down the road headed who knows where. He is just a love. Everyone who has fostered him has fallen in love with him. He loves to sleep on the edge of the bed or couch with his legs hanging off the edge, he has fallen off a few times but still does it. He is kid tested him with the grandchildren and did wonderfully. He is a wonderful, mild mannered guy, still full of life and seems to have been well taken care of before he was found. He loves to run around the yard or lay in the shade and just enjoy life, he does a cute patty cake while rubbing his back in the grass. He is completely housebroken.

COJOE
Lancaster, Pennsylvania

9/17/2006

Cojoe is a hefty 4-year-old neutered male.  He weighs about 27 lbs but is coming down with proper care.  He is a little standoffish at first but warms up quickly.  He gets along very well with other dogs and older children.  Can be somewhat protective and needs a little manners training to ensure that he doesn't go overboard when visitors leave.  But he's an affectionate and loving pup who will make a terrific companion, especially for someone who likes long walks.

RUDY
in Michigan

7/1/06

06006 – Rudy (m) – 4 yr. old male.  He was turned in because his family could not deal with his energy level any more.  For a 4 yr. old dog, he has the energy of a 2 yr. old.  He would be great for a family of active sports players – joggers, bikers, walkers, etc.  He would most likely be good with older kids.  He is housebroken.  He has been well socialized and will adapt to as new home easily.  He is in foster care in Michigan.

KRAVEN
Michigan
7/1/06

06001 – Kraven (M) – 2-3 yr. old male.  Kraven was returned to rescue because the family moved into an apartment that would not accept dogs.  He gets along very well with cats, kids, dogs, etc.  He is very social and gets along with just about everyone.  His biggest issue is his barking.  He would not make a good apartment dog because of it.  Very friendly, very sweet and extremely playfull.  He can be a bit of a bully with other dogs and would be best as an only dog.  He is in foster care in Michigan.

KOLBEY
in Michigan

7/1/06

06018 – Kolbey – coming in soon to Michele K.  The family found him a home, then took him back.  He is currently with his first family.  We may or may not have to deal with him as they were going to try to work out his issues (Typical Schip.)  Great news!  His original owners decided to keep him, so he has a loving forever home after all!

ROCCO

Hi!  I'm Rocco!  I'm about 2 years old and just about the sweetest guy around.  I love everybody!  I love to run and jump and play - especially jump!  I'm pretty good about staying off your lap or the furniture unless I'm invited, but when you come home I'll jump so high for joy, I'll butt your chin if you don't watch out!  I'm pretty good at getting things off counters, too.  I love other dogs and most kids - actually anybody who'll play with me.  I'm neutered now (darn it!) and have had all my shots.  I weigh about 19 pounds and am a pretty tall fellow for a Schip.  I need a little help with housebreaking, but I'm willing to learn.  Don't you want to play with me?

MIDNIGHT/aka IZZY
in Wisconsin

6/20/06

This tiny, 10 lb, one-year-old cutie isn't shy - she just moves too quickly to get a good shot of her.  We'll keep trying.  She's a patty-caking fool, very smart, and ACTIVE!  Seems to love other animals and everyone she meets.  Definitely passed the kitty test.  Her former owners saw her as a puppy and thought she'd be a nice lap dog - NOT!  They turned her in when she started using their house as a racetrack.  She is tolerant of handling but could use obedience training and would probably LOVE Rally.  She is house-trained AND crate-trained, is spayed, up-to-date on all shots and heartworm negative.  There's no question but that she will steal your heart.

Max is a healthy male of approximately 4-5 years old.  He was neutered in October, and is a bigger boy, 19 lbs., and leggy.  He is up-to-date on all vaccinations and has been wormed.  He is a very loving pup who will crawl into your lap to be petted and greets you effusively when you come home.  He is active but quite laid back and, while he enjoys a good game of fetch-the-ball, he's just as happy to stretch out at your feet (or by your side) for quiet time.  Max will only be placed in a home without young children, as he prefers a mature audience for his patty-cake solos!  He is partially alpha and would prefer to go to a home with previous Schip experience, but would like to be an only dog.

DUKE
in New Jersey

2/28/06

Duke is a 6-1/2-year old neutered male, who would probably prefer to be only dog although he handles cats well.  He is somewhat territorial and will occasionally mark.  He has been known to nip slightly and, until fully evaluated, will only consider placement in an experienced Schip home.  He is crated-trained, food motivated, and will happily give paw.

SWEET PEA
in Eastern Pennsylvania
2/27/06

Sweet Pea is a tiny, 10 lb girl about 7 years old.  She is being spayed and brought UTD on all shots today.  Her original name was Baby Bear, but her small size and a recent bout with fleas that caused a major loss of coat along with her loving nature indicated a name change to something that suited her better.  She is protective and growls a little when in your arms.  But she adapts quickly and plays well with other dogs.

Mimi
in Long Island, NY

2/27/06

Mimi is a tallish, 2-year-old female with lots of energy and lots of love.  She doesn't just wag her nub - her whole body wiggles in happiness.  WiggleLee would be a great new name.  She does tend to get a little over protective about her owner and will need solid obedience training and good, strong alpha parents.  She plays well with other dogs - loves to play-fight, chase, tear up stuffies, and chew on rawhides.  She is crate trained and mostly housebroken (all new adoptions need a period of adjustment).

JOY
in Long Island, NY
1/28/06

Joy is a sylph-like 8 pound spoiled brat.  She lived with her elderly mother until injury prevented her from caring for Joy properly.  Joy will snarl and snap if she doesn't get her way, but the rest of the time is loving and sweet, if a little nervous.  She will only be placed in an experienced Schip home without small children where she will need firm training.

CINDER
in Eastern Pennsylvania
12/15/05

Cinder is a 9-year-old big guy at 29 lbs, but not excessively fat and is active.  He is a sweetheart who loves being petted but is happy to lie on his own when you are busy.  He is a little food assertive in that he will gobble his down quickly, then go for any others available.  Where there are other dogs, it is best he be fed separately.  He is very gentle when given treats and plays well with other dogs.  A true gentleman, he is only partially alpha.  Neutered & UTD on all shots.

Sheba
in Eastern Pennsylvania
11/22/05

Seven-year-old Sheba with a stub tail is about 12 lbs of affection and activity.  She has been adopted by a wonderful couple who lost their previous rescue about a year ago.  Although they weren't sure they were ready for another, once they met and took Sheba home, there was no question that the time was right.  Sheba loves their grandbaby, is hated but tolerated by the elderly cat, gets along with one granddog, and, like her predecessor, does not particularly like one brother-in-law.   Like most Schips, she is an excellent judge of character.

COSMO  &  WANDA
in Eastern Pennsylvania
11/19/05

Cosmo and Wanda were adopted together.  Although their prospective parents were only looking to adopt one, when they met both, it was love at first sight for all and there was no question of not taking them together.

NEMO in Phoenix, AZ
11/3/05

Nemo is still a puppy at 10 1/2 months old.  He is 12" tall and not quite 12 pounds.  He is a little snuggle bug who loves toys, great with adults and older kids.  Was never trained not to play with his mouth but is undergoing training in that respect.  Not housebroken but working on it.  Doesn't bark very much, but would love to have a playmate to keep up with him.

He is looking for a new home due to small children in his prior home and his lack of learning not to play with his mouth.  He is neutered, current on all shots, microchipped, and eligible for 1 month free health care.

CHANNING in Colorado
10/17/05

Channing has found a home in Tennessee and has quickly adapted to her new surroundings.  She, of course, tries to boss around her canine and feline companions, but she is learning to live well with others.  She is loving and her new parent is thrilled.

Willy in Eastern Pennsylvania
11/4/05

Willy (formerly Jesse) was renamed because his new family's daughter's best friend is named Jessie, so they needed to eliminate confusion.  Willy is very happy in his new home although he does have some manners to learn and is working on them with the help of Lehigh Valley Schipperke Rescue.  He has definitely become
